The City of Oregon Council unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the Byron Station and urging the State of Illinois to support policies to preserve Illinois’ nuclear energy plants.

Supporting the Byron Station Nuclear Power Plant

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OREGON, OGLE COUNTY, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:

WHEREAS, the City of Oregon has a long standing rapport with the Byron Station Nuclear Power Plant,

WHEREAS, the Plant provides significant economic benefit regionally in the form of workforce, taxes and Plant employee household spending at local businesses,

WHEREAS, the City of Oregon will lose over $100,000 per year in LGDF funds as well as close to $3,000,000 in property tax funds to the park district and school district,

WHEREAS, local businesses will lose the income from 74 high earning Plant worker households that reside in the city and over 700 employees that shop and dine in Oregon,

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OREGON, IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS: we urge the State of Illinois to support policies to preserve Illinois’ nuclear energy plants, because of their critical support for our local economy by creating needed jobs on a local and regional level.
